Drogue Chute Hangglider Landing
Переглядів 188Місяць тому
Landing my WW Sport 3 after a 4.4 hour flight over the Black Forest at Bleibach. When tired and landing in unfamiliar places I prefer to play it safe, approaching the landing site with plenty of altitude to spare and employing the drogue chute. With a high and long final it is easy to round out exactly where I intend to. #flying #hanggliding #chute #landing #blackforest #kandel
Landing my hangglider after XC flight, cold and failing to run it out, April 21st 2024
Переглядів 1042 місяці тому
After going XC, usually tired and cold, I prefer to choose soft surfaces to land on. On this occasion this strategy seemed the right way to do it. An unexpectrd wind gradient and me being cold and stiff after a more than 2 hour cool spring flight made me fail to run it out after flare, thanks to the soft soil all was fine.

Hast du gut hinbekommen! Bravo!
Danke
how I love the sound of the vario going up :)
Wow❤
What make wheels was he using?
Inflated rubber tyres mounted on the basebar.
Ajoyib mazza bo'lsa kerak
классно !!! я тоже так хочу полетать 😁😁😁
Superb lift off❤🎉. Hope you had headwind.
Superb!! Daylight is less.
Hi, Have you ever tried the Kite without tail fin? If so, how much is the difference in UL-towing and in normal flight? Any adverse effect when you are turning/ thermalling?
On tow I feel much safer with the fin, otherwise almost no difference. When going fast, less tendency to initiate PIO,no adverse effects when thermalling that I am able to notice.
@@metafly1 Thanks a lot
The video looks bland. You were always flying in circles, the same thing every time.
Of course, it is called a landing pattern. These were training flights, no thermals. -And when going crosscountry circling is essential to stay in the rising air, punctuated by stretches going straight, hopefully having made the right decision, where the next thermal is.
No, it is a Uno Firebird from 1987. Moyes Mars, my first ever glider, was not as nimble.
Its mars moyes
What emergency?
It says “practice” in both the title and description. It’s just how an emergency landing would be done
I seen the worst parachute accident it was in Vegas there were 16 doing some kind of stunt and it all went well until one had a problem with her chute and she ended up going pretty far all course and she was coming down around the highway well she had no choice but to come down right in the middle of the highway where she was hit by a semi truck oh it was the worst thing i'd ever seen so sad.
Traumhafte Landung, Knud! Schön zu sehen, dass es Dir gut geht!
Dankeschön! Eine gelungene Landung ist immer eine sehr befriedigende Abrundung eines schönen Flugs.
Wir sollten mal wieder zusammen fliegen! Hoffe, Du bist wohlauf.
Going up in thermals?🎉🎉❤❤
Yes. Powered by rising air. The challenge is to find those areas ehere the air is rising.
Very nice landing sir🎉🎉
Warum fliegst du mit soviel Klappe?
This can be called indirect power gliding, I suppose
Da hast du den Waldbrand ja aus der Luft gesehen.. Ich hab davon gelesen.. Schön dich übrigens mal wieder getroffen zu haben! Schöne Grüße Sven
The emergency is if you have a very fast kite and no wind. Saves running like a gazelle and going AU
Aerotow is Superb!❤
Nice conditions, flew that day as well.
Totally, and utterly unnecessary.
As a non hang glider it looks like more if a distraction than anything and a good way to stall
@@garrettcarrett8634 Well no, speed is not reduced, no risk of stalling, glide slope is affected and can be adjusted much better by using the chute.
Where is the emergency? Thumb down 👎🏼 for the clickbait
Nice job! Which glider are u flying? I have been landing on wheels for the las 3 years and love it!! No more injuries or broken downtubes....here is a video hoping that you will like it ua-cam.com/video/jM7QQdvEBCY/v-deo.html
Pozdrav od krusevo makedonija
Hi Knud, Thanks for posting the video. I fly the same wing and just installed a drag chute in my harness and I am waitng for a nice large lz to try it for the first time. You video is a lot of help.
Awesome
Nice footage! I think you have transitioned from Atos-B to V. How do you feel the difference between them? Do you think the landing is faster and critical? Because I’m considering transit to V from B also. There’s not much info about the old atos as you know. Thanks!
Very beautiful
Nice launch! I like your footages. I also flying with Atos-b and c. And considering transitioning to v. I’m wondering how different compare between b and v. any thoughts? People says better, faster and critical landing. Thanks!
I can only compare it to my 2 year older Atos N with the aluminum A frame and direct actuators of the spoilers. But as the Atos V has got a practically new sail whereas the N has got the original, it might be unfair to compare. Even though frame and cut of the sails seem to be almost identical, I had the impression that the V is more sluggish in turning but maybe it is only that more input for the same spoiler actions is needed.
@@metafly1 thanks for the tip. I’ll try mine some time soon and put up on UA-cam. I’m looking forward to seeing your atos footage! Thanks!
So that is how you use the chute to land? Very good technic man. I m a paraglider . We don't use chute to land. But I guess for hang gliding it helps to reduce the landing speed. Also I see that you threw it at low altitude. So don't care about haters that criticize your technic. You land the way you want and if you wanna throw chute is up to you. Best flights!
@NachoWilde- The drag chute does not reduce your speed for landing, stall speed remains unchanged The purpose of the drag chute is to introduce, wait for it, drag. This reduces the glide efficiency of the glider and the glide slope becomes a lot steeper. This is useful for tight landing areas.
so just an airbrake then@@paulyoe6624
@@paulyoe6624 Yes, exactly. Biggest advantage imo is that the glide slope can be easily adjusted with choosing a higher speed for steeper glide slope. And even with a fairly high (meaning safe!) speed on final it is easy to round out at the point you are aiming at. Additionally the chute reduces the distance in ground effect considerably until stall speed is reached. Especially after long xc flights when my alertness and concentration has suffered or the landing area seems to have a slope using the chute makes my landings safer and more precise. You should be familiar with the technique, though. And then: high approach, deploy chute early (on base or final or even before starting your pattern), pull in for the spot you are aiming at, round out and flare after (quickly) bleeding off speed.
my question is the same as S G Park's . . . where and how did he launch to get that altitude? how did he get up there?
Probably with a winch launch, I expect.
@@tomhaskett5161 + thermals, I suppose
He’s towed by a plane, like a glider.
looks like Altes Lager near Berlin... Winch or plane, yes
Yes, winch towing in this case.

Beautiful landing!!
Next time flare like you mean it. I've done a few down wind no step landings in my 44 yrs of Hang Gliding.
Nice landing but why the need for droguechute? I mean you're landing at an airfield so no shortage of landing space :)
Maybe his first time using it. Better to pratice in a nice large lz to see how the glider handles before actually needing it. I have just installed a drag chute in my harness and I am waiting for a simular situation to use it for the first time.
What is the emergency?
I fly a WW Sport 3R. Such a good wing. My harness is Flex 2 :)
Start w las 😮😊
Hands higher on the tubes could have helped too
Thanks for sharing. I love mi droguechute as it points my glider straight into the wind plus allows me to land in tiny spots. Watch it here ua-cam.com/video/1hzosB6YNbw/v-deo.html
Beautiful!
Perfekt....
I can't see a mountain in this video. How can you take off?
I am creating an e help database. Would you tell me your motor type its kv battery size and configuration propeller diameter and pitch and maximum static thrust if you know it? And whether you are using ESC or VESC
Warning: Keeping the droguechute in the hand is the source of many accidents (droguechute over the control bar, or last minute hazard with droguechute in final)
